Job Specification – Legal Assistant (Litigation / Personal Injury)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant with a strong background in litigation, specifically personal injury. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience supporting solicitors across all stages of PI files, including plaintiff‑side litigation.

Candidates with defence‑litigation experience will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day‑to‑day administrative and legal support to solicitors handling personal injury litigation files.
  • Draft, proofread, and prepare legal documents including letters, pleadings, discovery, and briefs.
  • Manage case files from instruction through to settlement or hearing, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Liaise with clients, counsel, medical experts, engineers, insurers, and third parties.
  • Coordinate and prepare documents for court hearings, settlement meetings, and consultations.
  • Organise and manage medical records, reports, and expert documentation.
  • File motions, discovery requests, and other legal submissions on Courts Service Online (CSOL) or via hard‑copy filing where required.
  • Handle telephone and email queries and provide updates to clients in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Schedule appointments, consultations, and court dates.
  • Maintain accurate records, file notes, and case progress updates.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Minimum 1–2 years’ experience working in a litigation environment, with specific exposure to personal injury cases (plaintiff experience preferred).
  • Experience preparing litigation documentation and managing PI files.
  • Strong knowledge of court processes, litigation procedures, and relevant time limits.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and multitasking skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong drafting and proofreading ability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with case‑management systems an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines.
