Our Organisation: Saints Mary and Peters CE Scheme; provide a range of support and services for our local community. The scheme is based in Árus Lorcáin, Arklow. It is a place in which the participants in the scheme can gain valuable work experience and training, and they can acquire a sense of belonging; a place to share experiences and involvement with others, gain confidence, and knowledge, and develop interests.
Our aim: is to enhance employment and educational opportunities for our participants.
The Position: is based in Arklow Cancer Support We here at the Cancer Support CE Scheme provide emotional support and practical help to people in the local community who find themselves affected with cancer and their families and friends.- The person will be responsible for the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds, the sensory garden surrounding our support centre.
- Looking after plants, flowers, mowing the grass, weeding, repairing structures, and maintaining the outside of the building for visitors and their families who attend the cancer support centre
- Preparing the car to ensure such journeys are as comfortable as possible
- Repairs, painting, and maintaining various items, systems and/or components (e.g. furniture, windows, doors, walls and bathroom fixtures for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
- Maintains tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items in safe operating condition • Cleans landscaped areas and related items (e.g. drains, walkways, roads, etc.) for the purpose of preventing flooding and removing waste or hazards.
- Cleaning of smoking bins, domestic waste bins and Recycling materials
- Grounds keeping: Maintains grounds maintenance equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Maintains landscaping mowing, weeding, fertiliser, spraying weeds and wood cutting for the purpose of preserving grounds in a healthy and attractive condition.
- Gardening Upkeep of plants and various landscaping materials, e.g. lawns, shrubbery, flowers, trees, hedges, weeding, etc., for the purpose of keeping the areas attractive
- Preparation Prepares grounds (e.g. avenues, flower beds, banks, etc.) for the purpose of providing adequate, attractive and safe areas for community gatherings, assemblies, recreational activities and relaxation • Health & Safety Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues.
- Removes snow from paths, roads, parking areas, etc, for the purpose of providing a safe environment for staff and the general public
- Helping set up rooms and the outside areas for functions and events • Applies sand and salt (e.g. during snow and icy conditions, and other inclement weather etc) for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment for staff and the general public
