R&D Scientist- Medical Device Industry

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented R&D Scientist to join our team in supporting the development and validation of medical technologies. This individual will be responsible for planning, executing, and reporting on a range of testing activities-including functional, performance, and validation testing-to ensure products comply with regulatory standards and meet user requirements.

This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, the design of custom test fixtures and procedures, and maintaining a well-equipped and organized laboratory environment. Ideal candidates will bring a strong background in science or engineering, effective communication skills, and the ability to adapt within a fast-paced, evolving R&D setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute test strategies, protocols, and procedures simulating real-world clinical scenarios.
  • Coordinate testing timelines and resources across multiple projects to support product development cycles.
  • Design and fabricate test fixtures and equipment, including creation of detailed documentation and specifications.
  • Source components and materials needed for testing from external vendors.
  • Conduct hands-on testing of prototypes and final devices, capturing thorough records and analysis.
  • Communicate findings clearly to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Apply statistical analysis and root cause investigation to interpret results and guide decision-making.
  • Identify performance issues or design flaws and propose practical improvements.
  • Participate in risk analysis and product validation to support regulatory submissions.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality systems and maintain traceability across testing activities.
  • Maintain the test lab to high standards of safety, cleanliness, and operational readiness, including stock control and equipment calibration.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts to optimize lab workflows and testing efficiency.
  • Stay informed about evolving standards and best practices within the medical device testing industry.
  • Provide support and mentorship to junior staff.
  • Occasionally contribute to external partner testing or design projects as needed.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Degree in a scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Three years minimum practical experience in lab-based environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficient in standard office and technical software tools.
  • Comfortable adapting to changing priorities in a dynamic development environment.
