This competition is open to all candidates who meet the minimum eligibility criteria.
The position is a permanent Non-Established State Industrial post based on a 39 hour per week. The appointment will be subject to a probationary period of 12 months. Continuation in employment in the position, once appointed, is subject to satisfactorily meeting the requirements of the position and performing the duties as directed.
The pay scale that will apply is that of Craftworker (Carpenter) and the relevant pay rates are outlined in the candidate information booklet.

The Carpenter will form part of the civilian Barrack Foreman of Works Staff responsible for the maintenance of Defence Forces buildings and structures within the specified locations.The Carpenter will carry out repairs/ improvement works/ new Carpentry work to the Defence Forces building & housing stock and will work as part of a team covering all aspects of maintenance, with the flexibility to work between teams as workloads demand.
He/She will report via the Barrack Foreman of Works to the unit commander.
Candidates are required to:
Essential
(1) Be a fully trades qualified Carpenter through SOLAS, City & Guilds or equivalent Trade Qualification body that is acceptable to the Minister for Defence.(2) At least three (3) years relevant trade experience as a qualified carpenter to include experience of building maintenance work.
(3) Possess the ability to prepare and maintain records, read drawings and order materials from Bills of Quantities and schedules, and measure and record works variations.
Desirable Skills/ Attributes:
(1) Computer literate with a good working knowledge of email, Microsoft Word and Excel.(2) Possess the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
(3) Class B driving license.
