Company Background

Ornua is an Irish dairy co-operative that markets and sells dairy products on behalf of its Members, Ireland’s dairy processors and, in turn, Irish dairy farmers. Ornua is Ireland’s largest exporter of Irish dairy products and has annualised sales of €3.4 billion. Headquartered in Dublin, Ornua has a strong global team of 2,900 employees, operating from 10 business units worldwide, including 13 production facilities.

Ornua’s core purpose is to build profitable routes to market for Irish dairy products.

The Group is structured across two divisions: Ornua Foods and Ornua Ingredients. Ornua Foods is responsible for the marketing and sales of Ornua’s consumer brands, including Ireland’s most successful food export, Kerrygold, as well as Kerrygold Dubliner, Pilgrims Choice, Forto and BEO milk powders.

Ornua Ingredients is responsible for the procurement of Irish and non-Irish dairy products, for the sale of dairy ingredients to food manufacturing and foodservice customers across the world, and for managing volatility through de-risking and trading strategies.

About the Role

The Head of Sales, Ireland is a critical role that leads the development and executions of the commercial strategy in Ireland and directly influences the company's revenue generation, market positioning, and growth strategies.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Provide strategic direction, vision and leadership to the Ireland team while leading Irelands growth strategy
  • Responsible for identifying and driving new business opportunities.
  • By creating and executing effective commercial strategies, this role will help ensure the business’s financial growth.
  • Foster strong relationships with Irish retailers, partners, and stakeholders. Building trust and long-term partnerships is key to sustaining business success, and this role will be at the forefront of nurturing these relationships.
  • Work with multiple departments, including marketing, finance, product development, and operations to ensure that the business is aligned toward a unified goal, driving efficiency and maximizing results.
  • Keep up to date on market trends, consumer behaviour, and emerging opportunities. They use this information to guide decision-making, giving the company a competitive edge.
  • Responsible for diversifying the business’s revenue streams. This involves new product innovations, PPA strategies and developing alternative business models.
  • Play a key role as a member of the Ornua Foods International Leadership Team, providing input into strategic business decisions and the running of the wider business.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience at senior leadership level with a track record of delivering strong business performance in the Irish FMCG environment.
  • Clear and demonstrable ability to articulate and communicate a compelling vision for the business, with an understanding of how to maximise value at every level.
  • Strong commercial background with experience in dealing and negotiating with customers; deep knowledge of Irish retail and customer base is critical for this role.
  • Experience of leading a business through challenging market conditions with a strong consumer brand/portfolio of brands in the FMCG sector.
  • Strong results orientation and decisiveness, with the ability to embrace and drive change to ensure the business meets its objectives.
  • Excellent commercial, financial and analytical acumen, a data driven approach to decision making, and a strong focus on delivering results in line with clear KPIs.
  • Leadership profile as a strong role model of the Ornua values and behaviours.
  • Excellent people leadership skills and associated track-record, with a clear commitment to developing talent and building future leaders.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport at all levels of the organisation.
