Clerical Officer (CO) Finance

The Clerical Officer (Finance) reports to and supports the Finance Manager in pursuit of the stated annual operating unit objectives under the Authority’s Unit Plans. The role is varied and requires the role holder to be flexible, capable of meeting statutory deadlines and to ensure commitment to delivering quality results.

This role is a 4-month temporary contract and you will be employed via Cpl.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Prepare bank reconciliations, monitoring bank balances and processing bank transfers.
  • Process creditor payment runs every 15 days in a timely and effective manner.
  • Prepare income reconciliations and ensure fee income is recorded accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Managing creditors including set-up of new vendors and reconciliation of creditor statements on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare tax reconciliations for VAT, PSWT, RCT and Carbon Tax to relevant Bodies
  • Management of petty cash requests, cycle to work schemes and commuter ticket schemes for staff and other staff business expenses.
  • Maintaining financial records in such a way as to facilitate timely and accurate financial data for decision making.
  • Support the Finance team to ensure their objectives are met
  • Performing unit project work and participating in cross-functional project work and collaborative tasks.
  • Other ad hoc finance duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.

Essential requirements

Suitable candidates must be able to demonstrate the following knowledge and skills:

  • Finance related work experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills and sound judgement.
  • A proven track record of delivering high quality results under pressure.
  • Excellent administration, organisational, diary and file management skills.
  • The ability to prioritise work and to multi-task.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships.
  • The ability to work independently and/or cooperatively within a team environment in order to provide a customer-focused service.
  • Excellent computer skills particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
Desirable skills/experience
  • Previous public/civil service experience in finance/accounting would be advantageous.
