This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance.

Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.

Job Description

We’re offering a work experience opportunity for a Kitchen Assistant, a hybrid training role.

This is ideally suited to someone who is eager to learn the inner workings of a busy kitchen while also training up as barista and getting a broader view of the inner workings of a hospitality business. The candidate will receive full training both theoretical and practical learning to support the kitchen team and develop core kitchen assistant skills while also getting a small amount of waiter/barista experience towards the end of the placement.

Role Description

The participant will receive formal/ informal training in the following ;

Formal training such as QQI, Health & Safety and Barista training.

Informal Training such as
  • Learn how to be a waiter/barista
  • Learn how to make speciality coffee and what make it superior
  • Learn shot extraction as well as latte art skills
  • Learn other bar skills such as making various drinks
  • Take customer orders and all the tasks related to being a waiter.
  • Learn how to complete all kitchen assistant tasks such as; dishwashing, deep cleaning kitchen equipment, waste management, keeping the kitchen floors and work areas clean and safe
  • Assist the kitchen team with food preparation and basic cooking tasks
  • Learn kitchen procedures, including opening and closing routines
  • Support with maintaining hygiene standards
  • Help with stock rotation and storage how to complete it and its importance within the kitchen
  • Understand and follow health & safety procedures
  • Gain experience working in a busy, team-oriented kitchen environment
