Job Description

Anú Heritage Ltd. is seeking a participant for a Work Placement Experience Programme (WPEP) position as an Assistant Environmental Research Consultant.

This placement is designed as a structured learning opportunity for individuals with an interest in built heritage, environment, or planning. No prior professional experience is required. The role focuses on developing practical skills through supported training and guided tasks within a professional consultancy environment.

The participant will receive hands-on experience assisting with conservation, heritage, planning and environmental research work. Under supervision, they will support the preparation of conservation reports, conservation management plans, and planning and environmental research documentation.

Key learning activities will include undertaking desk-based research, reviewing planning and policy documents, and assisting in the organisation of project information such as photographs, maps and background data. The participant will also gain experience in drafting structured written content and understanding how professional reports are prepared.

Training will be provided in research methods, report structure, data organisation and general project workflows. The participant will also gain insight into how heritage and environmental considerations are identified and addressed within real projects.

This placement is intended to support the development of confidence, practical skills and understanding of consultancy processes, helping the participant progress towards future employment or further training.

This position is offered under the Work Placement Experience Programme (WPEP). Eligibility for participation will be determined by the Department of Social Protection.

Role Description

This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector-recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection.

This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP.

The participant will receive a combination of formal and informal training throughout the placement.

Formal training will include:
  • Desk-based research methods
  • Introduction to conservation, heritage and environmental reporting
  • Understanding planning policy and environmental context
  • Data collection, organisation and management
  • Report structure and professional writing standards
  • Use of internal systems and project workflows
Informal training will include:
  • On-the-job learning through supported project work
  • Mentoring and guidance from senior staff
  • Communication skills and professional correspondence
  • Team collaboration and project coordination
  • Time management and task organisation within a consultancy setting
  • General IT skills and document preparation
The participant will gain practical experience by assisting with real projects under supervision, helping to build confidence and understanding of professional consultancy work in a structured and supportive environment.
