About the Organisation

Our client is a 131-bed inpatient mental health service, registered as an approved centre with the Mental Health Commission. For over 200 years, they have provided specialised treatment, care, and support to adults living with severe and enduring mental health needs and neuropsychiatric disorders, including:

The Role

As Senior Social Worker, you will play an integral role in supporting the Specialised Mental Health Rehabilitation Programme. Working with residents with severe and enduring mental illness and complex needs, you will help individuals to recover, rebuild confidence, and develop the skills required to live as independently as possible.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing the psychosocial needs of patients within the context of their family and social environment
  • Providing individual, couple, family, and group therapy sessions
  • Collaborating with residents, families, carers, and fellow MDT members in goal setting and care planning
  • Contributing to the Clinical Governance Committee and supporting the development of strategic and operational plans
  • Maintaining comprehensive clinical records in line with professional standards
  • Supervising and supporting student social workers in practice education
  • Contributing to research, teaching, and academic partnerships — including with Trinity College Dublin
  • Ensuring the highest standards of social work practice are planned, delivered, and evaluated

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

  • Be registered on the Social Worker Register maintained by the Social Work Registration Board at CORU
  • Hold a degree in Social Work (or equivalent qualification) and be eligible for membership with the Irish Association of Social Workers (IASW)
  • Have a minimum of five years post-qualification clinical experience (full-time or aggregate)
  • Have established clinical experience working with individuals with severe and enduring mental health conditions, specifically in mental health rehabilitation
  • Have significant experience in homeless services and forensic mental health services
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of clinical governance frameworks within a healthcare setting
  • Have experience in the teaching, supervision, and practice education of student social workers
  • Be an energetic and collaborative professional, able to work effectively within a diverse multidisciplinary team
