An Overview of the Civil Engineering Apprenticeship
An apprenticeship is a full-time programme that combines work-based learning with a formal training programme. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will work as a full- time member of staff with your employer, who will release you to attend the structured training programme with the training provider the earn as you learn approach.
The learning component will be delivered through Munster Technological University, Co. Cork who act as the co-ordinating provider for Civil Engineering Apprenticeships in Ireland. The academic modules will be delivered online one day per week, with one day per month requiring attendance on the ATU Sligo campus to facilitate laboratory work and face to face tuition.
Those who successfully achieve all programme elements will attain an Ordinary Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering at Level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
Attendance at all scheduled training and achieving the various certifications involved, is a mandatory requirement for you to successfully complete the programme.
The start date for apprentices recruited to join the programme will be early September 2025. Please note that requests for deferrals cannot be accommodated. You can apply for a place if you meet the relevant essential qualification criteria:
QQI Level 5 (or equivalent)
Pass Grade in Maths at Level 5 (or Equivalent)
Solid literacy, verbal, and numeracy skills
Good computer skills
Apprentice details required:- Apprentice name and contact details (home and work address, email, and phone)
Qualification Certificates (e.g., Leaving Certificate)
Letter from employer if required (e.g., if the Apprentice does not have a level 5
qualification, they need a letter on headed paper, confirming they have a minimum 3years’ work experience)
Passport ID Photos (signed by Apprentice)
Photocopy of Personal Identification (e.g., Passport or Driving Licence) clearly showingall details
Apprentice PPS number
As your Employer, Jons Civil Engineering Co. Ltd will assign you a supervisor and mentor to support, guide and mentor the apprentice(s).
