Our client, Mount Leinster Haulage Limited, based in Co. Carlow, is currently seeking HGV Mechanics for immediate start at their facility in Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow.

• Carry out routine maintenance, servicing, and inspections on HGVs in line with manufacturer specifications and RSA/DVSA standards.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults and perform necessary repairs.
• Prepare vehicles for CVRT testing and complete pre-test inspections.
• Conduct preventative maintenance checks and ensure all vehicles meet legal safety requirements.
• Carry out engine, transmission, clutch, brake, and suspension repairs and replacements.
• Maintain accurate service records, job cards, and inspection documentation.
• Respond to roadside breakdowns and provide emergency repairs when required.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.
• Ensure all work is completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.
• Liaise with drivers, transport managers, and external suppliers regarding repairs and parts.

Requirements:

• Candidate must be competent to carry out all job duties listed above
• A mechanic qualification or certificate is a bonus but is not mandatory
• 2-3 years’ of relevant experience as a HGV Mechanic is required
• Proven experience working with heavy goods vehicles, ideally within a haulage or transport environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Experience preparing vehicles for CVRT testing.
• Ability to diagnose faults using modern diagnostic tools and software.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Essential knowledge includes vehicle diagnostics, and repairing & diagnosing ABS/EBS brake systems
• Essential skills include diagnosis and repair of trucks, trailers and vans
• The candidate must have experience in installing and adjusting motors, brakes and steering
• The candidate must have experience in installing, adjusting and servicing mechatronics components of HGVs
• The candidate must have knowledge and experience of performing scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes and engine tune-ups, to achieve smooth running of vehicles and compliance with pollution regulations
• The candidate must be able to reassemble engines and parts after repairs
