Occupational Therapist (Adults – Complex Needs)

Role Purpose

This role offers a qualified Occupational Therapist the opportunity to work independently within a multidisciplinary team, providing clinical services to adults with complex needs. These include Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), and/or co-occurring mental health conditions.

You will take ownership of assessment, intervention planning, and service user outcomes, delivering high-quality, evidence-based care that supports independence, participation, and meaningful engagement in daily life.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice
  • Independently manage a caseload of adults with complex needs.
  • Carry out detailed occupational assessments and deliver occupation-based interventions.
  • Provide clinical reasoning and intervention plans that support functional independence and quality of life.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals to ensure coordinated, person-centred support.
  • Maintain comprehensive clinical records and reports in line with regulatory standards.
Service Delivery & Development
  • Support service development initiatives, clinical audits, and quality improvement plans.
  • Represent Occupational Therapy at team meetings, clinical reviews, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Contribute to the development of internal guidelines and best practices.
Supervision, Training & CPD
  • Offer supervision, mentorship, and informal training to junior colleagues or support staff where appropriate.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain registration with CORU.
  • Participate in internal CPD events, case discussions, and relevant external training.
Governance & Professional Standards
  • Work in compliance with all relevant legislation, ethical codes, and professional standards.
  • Follow established policies and procedures for health, safety, and risk management.
  • Take personal responsibility for safe, ethical, and effective clinical practice.
Essential Requirements
  • Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy
  • Current CORU registration
  • Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification clinical experience working with adults with Intellectual Disability, Mental Health needs, and/or ABI
  • Demonstrated experience in occupation-focused, evidence-based interventions
  • Proven ability to manage a varied caseload independently
  • Full driving licence and access to own transport
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
Desirable Experience
  • Sensory integration interventions (with or working towards post-grad training)
  • Experience using standardised functional assessment tools (e.g., AMPS)
  • Seating assessment and postural management (including relevant training)
  • Supporting individuals with behaviours that challenge
  • Positive Behaviour Support planning or person-centred planning
  • Using outcome measures to track clinical effectiveness
  • Supervising students or junior staff
  • Involvement in service development or clinical audit
