Eligibility to participate on CE is generally linked to those who are 21 years or over and in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for 1 year or more or 18 years and over for certain disadvantaged groups. Your eligibility will have to be verified by the Department.

Accountable to: The Catacombs Manager & Community Employment Supervisor

The Catacombs Project is situated under Calry Church, The Mall Sligo and entails a development of five disused crypts extensively refurnished into a purpose-built childcare facility and community centre. The employment of a Childcare Assistant is on a part time basis and the normal working week is Monday to Friday amounts to 19.5 hrs per week, the intended times are between 1.30pm and 6.00pm.

Youth Work Ireland North Connaught Community Employment Scheme is a project funded by the Department of Social Protection in which employs participants to work within its own services and also with other community-based organisations in Sligo Town.

• Working as part of a team in the day to day running of the Catacombs/Cosy Cats, involvement in planning and implementing activities and programmes as scheduled in an Afterschool Programme.
• Assisting Childcare Staff with small groups of children and assisting them where necessary in the various activities.
• Assisting in Homework Supervision.
• Assisting with the walking bus which entails school collections to and from school.
• Involvement in supervision and being aware of special dietary requirements for children during mealtimes.
• Escorting children to areas of the building i.e. toilets, outside play area all in accordance with Policies and Procedures.
• Adhering to all Policies and Procedures and ensuring compliance with good standards of hygiene. Regular fire drills are included.
• Communicate with the Manager of Catacombs or Co-ordinator in respect of any concern they may have even in relation to Health & Safety.
• Being aware of and vigilant for signs of child abuse or issues and report immediately to the Manager or Coordinator.
• To participate in relevant training eg First Aid, Manual Handling and Safeguarding Trust where necessary and to highlight your needs for any other relevant training required.
• Taking part in team meetings
• Ensure that users of the Catacombs adhere to regulations related to the use of facilities. Investigate unauthorized activities in grounds and report subsequent problems to the Manager of Catacombs
• May be required to operate machinery associated to duties, ensuring equipment is properly utilized.
• Perform allied and kindred duties if required.
