Position Summary:
The Theatre Complex in Beaumont is defined as the following:
Operating complex in Beaumont Hospital, Operating complex at St Joseph’s Hospital Raheny, Minor Day Theatre & Procedure Rooms at St Joseph’s hospital, and all associated services and staff to ensure the efficient and safe delivery of Operating and Procedural Services.
The CNM 2 is a key member of the nursing management team providing clinical and operational leadership to CNM 1 and nursing teams and support to the management team in delivering the highest possible quality of care.
Responsibilities:
The post-holder will:
- Work as a CNM2 in the department. Lead nursing in areas of professional practice, standards and quality of care, staffing, manpower and personnel
- Work with the Nursing Management Team, Clinical Nurse Manager 3, Assistant Director of Nursing & Directorate Nurse Manager on priority initiatives within the Theatre department. & management team
- The chief responsibilities relate to the co-ordination of services within the department theatre session management and the provision of nursing care to patients undergoing anaesthesia and surgery.
- The Clinical Nurse Manager 2, Anaesthetics, is held accountable for the nursing service to patients attending for This includes making provisions for the best possible nursing care of patients at all times; the nomination of persons to act up in his/her absence; assessment of patient care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, the setting and monitoring of standards of care, and the implementation of strategies to ensure efficient and effective use of all resources.
- The Clinical Nurse Manager 2 will also be held accountable for day to day management. This includes the rostering (Elective & Out of Hours Cover), organisation and allocation of work, teaching and training of nurses and support staff and participation in the ongoing development and evaluation of systems and programmes for delivery of
- In carrying out the work detailed hereunder the expectation is that, in agreement with the Directorate Nurse management work will be assigned to the Staff Nurses for which accountability will be ultimately held by the Clinical Nurse Manager
The person appointed will be expected to give regular, reliable, consistent professional service. He/she will work closely with the Directorate Nurse Management, Clinicians and other staff in order to provide efficient and effective services to patients within available resource constraints.
- Operational Management:
- Assesses and identifies training and development needs for nursing staff; sets objectives for such learning, recommends these to the Nursing management team and contributes to the development of training programmes where

- Provides for teaching, training and guidance of learner
- Participates in and implements the ongoing assessment of student nurses in consultation with Clinical Placement Co-ordinators and in accordance with An Bord Altranais/NMBI
- At all times acts as an effective role model by demonstrating skilled nursing care in the clinical situation for staff and student
- Works in collaboration with the Clinical Practice Support Nurse in aiding Staff Nurses professional development.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
CASE MANAGEMENT
The Clinical Nurse Manager II is responsible for case management by:
- Organising the caseload on a daily basis and controlling the utilisation of facilities and the organisation of stock with appropriate
- Recording activity analysis on a daily basis and discuss same with the CNM 3 & ADON in relation to standards of patient care and staffing
- Regularly discussing practices, policies and procedures with the relevant clinicians and developing practices in line with best
- Ensure the preparation of weekly duty rosters, taking into consideration, holiday, study leave and other control
- Supports and supervises nursing staff and other support staff in carrying out their allocated clinical duties to the required
- Advises Nurse Management when staff levels fall below or are in excess of that considered to be adequate to meet variations of work

- Take all possible steps to promote the development of staff nurses with the aim of facilitating nurses to be autonomous and expert

- Identify and utilise teaching, learning and practice opportunities in the clinical setting and encourage problem based learning strategies based on patient health
- Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of Induction/Orientation Training Programmes, Continuing Education Programmes and the Post Graduate Peri-operative Nursing
- Ensure the availability of appropriate information/educational resources for patients and families aiming to encourage independence, the prevention of illness and the promotion of health for all
- Participate actively with and promote research opportunities within the
- Develops and maintains good communications within the department and with wards, technical support staff and the allied health
- Promote, nurture and maintains a high level of staff morale hence prompting team spirit and satisfaction among nursing and other staff within the
- Implements, welfare, health and safety policies in the
- Receive visiting professionals, medical representatives and lay visitors to the Department in line with local policy.
- Participate in the interviewing and selection of nursing staff and others as required for the

Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc
(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition: (i) Are registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives
maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agusCnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or entitled to be so registered.
And
(ii) Have at least 5 years post registration experience of which 2 must be in the
speciality or related area.
And
(iii) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.
And
(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of
suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the
functions of the role.
