Application Details
Eligibility to participate on CE is generally linked to those who are 21 years or over and in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for 1 year or more or 18 years and over for certain disadvantaged groups. Your eligibility will have to be verified by the Department.

Job Description
Duties
This is a developmental opportunity, no experience necessary. Accredited training will be provided to support your career.
Assist in the day to day activities of the services with a key focus on client interactions, including providing practical supports for older people attending the services; duties may include; making teas, coffee’s & snacks, helping with the laundry service, providing support with shopping, prescription collection, meal delivery etc.
- Provision of one to one support to older people who drop in to the centre and who would benefit from dedicated time. One to one support will also be provided through home and hospital visits.
- Help to set up and take part in a range of activities which may include arts and crafts, gardening, exercise classes, flower arranging, music, yoga, baking, pottery, computer classes, information sessions, games etc.
- Encourage older people to identify other activities that they would like to see take place in the center. Accompany older people on outings and away days.
- With staff and volunteers plan and manage the weekly Mervue lunch club.
- Promote and encourage older people to participate in activities in house and in other settings in the wider community. Ensure that clients are fully informed about events taking place.

All staff are obliged to:

- Use protective equipment, clothing or other means for securing the safety, health and welfare of themselves and others
- To report to management, without delay, any defects in the workplace, plant, equipment or systems of work, which may lead to danger.
- Ensure that Health and Safety policy and procedures as per the COPE Galway Health and Safety Manual are fully adhered to.
- Carry out Health and Safety duties specifically allocated to you.
Person Spec:
- The ideal candidate will be friendly, welcoming, patient, kind and with a genuine interest in creating an age friendly environment where older people feel valued and cared for.
- All staff with COPE Galway Senior Support Service should be reliable and of good character with a demonstrated commitment to supporting older people to live independently.
- Previous experience working with or supporting older people in the community is desirable.
As this is a developmental role, the candidate will be provided with both in-house and external training opportunities to develop their skills and acquire qualifications which will help them gain a full-time position upon their completing the scheme.
