Heavy Plant Fitter/Mechanic
Location: Ringaskiddy (75%) / Tivoli (25%), Co. Cork
Working Hours:
Monday–Thursday: 07:00 – 15:30
Friday: 07:00 – 14:30
About the Role
We are currently seeking a motivated and hands-on Fitter / Mechanical Operative to join our team.
This position will initially involve basic fitting and installation work, with opportunities to develop into more complex mechanical and hydraulic tasks as experience grows.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in trucks, quarry plant, cranes, or hydraulics who is looking to join a forward-thinking and supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out basic fitting and installation checks (e.g. access gantries, guards, safety barriers).
Perform mechanical maintenance, repair, and overhaul on port equipment, including cranes, conveyors, hydraulic systems, pumps, gearboxes, and other plant machinery
Assist in the installation, commissioning, and modification of new mechanical systems and equipment.
Participate in emergency breakdown response and provide technical support outside of normal working hours as required.
Perform tyre changes and routine maintenance.
Assist in mechanical setup and equipment checks.
Adhere to all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) standards, including safe isolation and lockout/tagout procedures.
Follow all safety and quality procedures on site.
Work alongside other team members and departments as required.
Requirements
National Craft Certificate (FETAC Level 6) or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Maintenance, or related trade
Previous experience as a Fitter, Mechanic, or Mechanical Operative.
Background in heavy vehicles, quarry equipment, cranes, or hydraulic systems is an advantage.
Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, marine, or port environment.
Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good attention to detail and a proactive attitude.
Full clean driver’s licence
