Social Care Worker – Athlone & Mullingar
A healthcare facility in the Midlands is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Social Care Worker to support young people (under 18) and their families affected by substance and alcohol misuse.
This is a rewarding, community-based position offering the opportunity to work directly with young people and their families, supporting recovery, wellbeing, and resilience.
The role involves working one day per week in Mullingar and one day per week in Athlone, providing consistent and person-centred care within a supportive healthcare environment.
ResponsibilitiesProvide high-quality, person-centred support to young people experiencing substance or alcohol misuse challenges.
Offer guidance and counselling to parents, siblings, and guardians affected by addiction.
Develop and review individualised care and support plans that promote recovery, independence, and well-being.
Liaise and collaborate with external agencies including CAMHS, YAMHS, Tusla, An Garda Síochána, schools, Education Welfare Officers, Youthreach, GPs, AA, NA, and Al-Anon.
Maintain accurate and confidential case notes and reports in line with HIQA and organisational standards.
Uphold child protection, safeguarding, and health & safety protocols at all times.
Participate in case conferences, inter-agency meetings, and professional supervision.
RequirementsMinimum Level 7 qualification in Social Care, Counselling, Psychology, Addiction Studies, or a related discipline.
Experience working in residential, community care, or youth support settings.
Strong understanding of person-centred and rights-based approaches.
Excellent communication, empathy, and teamwork skills, with the ability to engage young people effectively.
Knowledge of child protection procedures and relevant Irish legislation (Children First).
Full driving licence (desirable) and access to own transport.
Garda Vetting and eligibility to work in Ireland required.
Salary & Benefits€19.70 per hour, with daytime shifts.
Double pay on weekends and Bank Holidays.
