Under Sextons Bar & Restaurant’s new ownership, the Kitchen Assistant plays a key role in delivering a fresh, high-quality dining experience by supporting the chefs, maintaining an immaculate kitchen and helping service run smoothly.
Purpose of the RoleHelp the kitchen team deliver consistent, high‑standard food that reflects Sextons’ renewed vision and reputation.
Maintain a clean, safe and organised environment that supports efficiency, reduces waste and upholds strict food-safety standards.
Contribute positively to a supportive, respectful team culture during this exciting new phase for the business.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with basic food preparation, including washing, peeling and chopping vegetables, preparing simple garnishes and assembling basic dishes under chef supervision.
Keep all kitchen areas spotless, including worktops, sinks, equipment, fridges, freezers, dry stores and floors.
Wash and store crockery, cutlery, pots, pans and kitchen tools, ensuring items are always available for chefs and front of house.
Support chefs during busy service by restocking stations, collecting and delivering items, and keeping prep areas tidy and organised.
Help receive, check and correctly store deliveries, rotating stock and labelling items to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
Follow Sextons’ cleaning schedules, completing daily and weekly tasks, including deep cleaning as required by management.
Adhere to all food hygiene, allergen, health and safety procedures, including correct use of chemicals and equipment.
Report any maintenance issues, equipment faults or safety concerns promptly to the Head Chef or Sous Chef.
Skills and CompetenciesStrong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation.
Ability to stay calm, focused and efficient in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Willingness to follow instructions carefully and to learn new skills and procedures introduced by the new ownership.
Good communication and teamwork, with a respectful and supportive approach to colleagues at all levels.
Basic understanding of food hygiene and safe working practices, or enthusiasm to complete training.
Experience and Qualifications
Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant, Kitchen Porter or in a similar hospitality role is desirable but not essential.
Food Hygiene or Food Safety training (or willingness to complete this as part of induction).
Working Hours and ConditionsShift-based role, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, in line with Sextons Bar & Restaurant’s trading hours.
Work will involve standing for long periods, lifting and carrying, and operating in a hot, busy kitchen.
Personal QualitiesPositive, can‑do attitude and genuine enthusiasm for working in hospitality.
Reliable, punctual and committed to supporting Sextons’ new ownership in raising standards and guest satisfaction.
