Explorium is an exciting state of the art Science and Sport visitor attraction located in Dublin. It is a huge facility (110,000 sq ft), with over 250 new and interesting things to do for families, schools and visitors of every age. This exciting centre is the first of its kind in Ireland and we are sure that we have created something unique and very special.
Our focus is on the brilliant experience we give to our visitors. We are currently seeking a full-time Facilities Maintenance Technician to work on a rostered shift basis working 5 days over 7, with regular weekend work and occasional evenings.
Role Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Technician will support the smooth operation, safety, technical functionality, and overall upkeep of a large scale science and sport visitor attraction (110,000 sq ft). This role requires a multi skilled technician with mechanical, electrical, and general maintenance abilities to ensure all exhibits, equipment, and building infrastructure remain in optimal working order.
Key Responsibilities: Building and Facilities Maintenance
Conduct routine preventative maintenance across the building and associated systems.Perform basic mechanical, electrical, and electro mechanical repairs.
Complete cosmetic and structural upkeep, including painting, general repairs, minor plumbing and minor carpentry.
Inspect, test, and maintain fire safety equipment and building safety systems.
Exhibit MaintenanceSupport daily maintenance of interactive science exhibits.
Diagnose faults in exhibit lighting, mechanical parts, sensors, and technical components.
Carry out minor repairs and adjustments to ensure exhibits remain operational.
Perform daily inspections of exhibit zones, reporting and resolving malfunctions.
Technical & Tools Based WorkSafely operate hand tools and power tools for repair and maintenance tasks.
Install or adjust simple equipment and fittings as required.
Compliance, Health & SafetyPerform regular H&S checks and identify hazards.
Support emergency procedures including fire marshal duties and evacuations.
Ensure contractors follow H&S protocols while on site.
Operational DutiesAssist with moving, installing, or storing exhibits, furniture, or equipment.
Conduct opening and closing procedures for the building.
Ensure premises, equipment, and storage areas remain secure and well organised.
Liaise with cleaning and maintenance teams to coordinate tasks.
RequirementsLeaving Certificate or equivalent and relevant vocational qualification
2+ years’ experience in building or facility maintenance
Competency with mechanical systems, hand tools, and power tools
Knowledge of health & safety standards, COSHH, basic mechanical principles
Strong communication, good English and problem solving ability
Reliable, organised, proactive work ethic
