Job Description & Skills Required
Pipe Fitters install pipe systems and maintain and repair pipes and drainage systems in major utilities, industrial, and construction settings and sites. Tasks required by this job include: • Examines drawings and specifications to determine layout of piping and drainage systems; Measures and cuts required lengths of copper, lead, steel, iron, aluminium, cast aluminium, or plastic piping, including PVC pipes for internal gravitational drainage when necessary, using hand tools or all types of machine tools; Installs pipes for heating, ventilating, fire prevention, water, drainage, and similar systems in industrial and construction settings, including terminals, sewerage systems, and other mains networks; Fits piping and drainage systems into position and joins sections by welding, soldering, cementing, fusing, screwing, or by other methods; • Tests pipework and drainage systems for leaks and makes necessary adjustments.
