Accountant/ Accounts Assistant (12 Months Fixed Term Contract)

Kepak is a leading food company with 14 manufacturing sites and over 4,500 employees across Ireland and the UK, with a turnover of €1.75 billion.

We supply fresh and value-added meat based products to retail and foodservice through private label and our own brands, including Rustlers, Big Al's and John Stone.

This involves a good understanding of both accounting and finance to ensure the financial integrity of the Statutory accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Management of Weekly Accounts process to minimise Weekly to Monthly differences and provide explanations for any significant stock gains/losses
• Management of month end close process to include preparation of journal entries, accruals, general Ledger
• Preparation of Monthly Reporting Pack, P&L, Balance Sheet
• Preparation of General Ledger reconciliations
• General Ledger spend Analysis
• Produce reports for the local site senior management team to highlight key business and operational control issues
• Oversee the accounts payable process and manage weekly payments to farmers and other suppliers.
• Ad hoc queries and reports where required
• As with all positions, due to the nature of our business, key responsibilities will evolve and change over time.
• Managing the month End close process and completing timely financial reporting within strict deadlines into the Meat Division.

• Part Qualified/Qualified Accountant or relevant experience in a finance background
• Working knowledge of monthly reconciliations and identifying opportunities for development within existing control procedures
• High awareness of current technical accounting and reporting requirements
• Computer literate with good Excel skills with solid understanding of accounting software principles
• Strong technical ability with financial analysis and reporting skills
• Ability to communicate well both verbally and written
• Excellent understanding of operational controls
• Effective time management, planning and organisational skills
