Job Summary:
The Form Kerb Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a specialized machine used to extrude concrete or asphalt kerbs/curbs and gutters on construction sites. The operator will work as part of a crew to lay down continuous concrete forms according to project specifications, blueprints, and local regulations.The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of concrete paving, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Operation:
Operate and control a slipform kerb/curb machine (e.g., Gomaco, Wirtgen, Miller, Curb Fox, etc.) to lay concrete or asphalt kerbs, gutters, and other forms.
Conduct pre-start checks and daily maintenance on the machine to ensure it is in good working order.
Adjust machine settings for speed, depth, slope, and alignment based on site conditions and project plans.
Monitor the flow of concrete/asphalt into the machine and manage the hopper to ensure a continuous and consistent pour.
Site and Project Management:
Read and interpret drawings , plans, and survey markers to establish correct line and grade.
Coordinate with the site foreman, concrete/asphalt delivery drivers, and other crew members to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow.
Ensure the work is performed to the highest quality standards and meets all project specifications.
Troubleshoot and resolve minor issues with the machine or the pour process as they arise.
Safety and Maintenance:
Adhere to all company and site-specific safety policies and procedures.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Maintain a clean and organized work area around the machine.
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the machine at the end of each shift.
Report any major mechanical issues or safety hazards to the supervisor immediately.
Work effectively as part of a team, communicating clearly with other operators, laborers, and supervisors.
Assist the ground crew with manual tasks such as spreading concrete, finishing, and cleaning as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience:
Proven experience as a Form Kerb Machine Operator is highly preferred.
Experience with other heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, loaders, pavers) is a plus.
Demonstrated knowledge of concrete and asphalt properties.
Skills:
Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and survey markings.
Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices on a construction site.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must have Safe pass and Manual Handling that are up to date.
