Healthcare Assistant
Leigheas Medical Centre, situated at Arden Rd, Puttaghan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly, R35 YF98, Ireland, is currently seeking qualified Healthcare Assistants to join our team.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
You are expected to uphold the highest standards of care for individuals requiring assistance, serving as the primary caregiver to patients.
Your responsibilities include supporting the General Practitioner (GP) and nursing staff by preparing patients for consultations and procedures. Key duties involve obtaining and recording patient histories, measuring and documenting vital signs, and conducting basic, non-invasive clinical tests such as ECGs, phlebotomy, spirometry, respiratory function assessments, suture removal, and wound care management, as directed.
You will ensure patient comfort and dignity by preparing them for examinations, offering chaperone services when necessary, and articulating clinical procedures clearly to reduce anxiety and promote understanding.
Operational efficiency of the practice is maintained through effective administration, which includes processing clinical forms, managing internal and external correspondence, and overseeing patient communications.
You may contribute to expanded clinical capacity for minor surgical interventions.
Supporting the clinical team’s effectiveness, you will assist the GP by managing medical equipment sterilization, inventory control, patient care coordination, and appointment scheduling to facilitate smooth workflow and timely service delivery.
In addition to clinical care, your role encompasses the supervision of hygiene, nutrition, and patient mobility, operating collaboratively as part of the clinical care team.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- A minimum QQI Level 5 qualification in Healthcare Support or a comparable social care major award is required to comply with Irish permit regulations.
- A solid foundation in medical terminology, as well as proficiency in performing standard clinical observations (including vital signs) and basic diagnostic procedures, is expected.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are necessary for effective engagement with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational acumen and meticulous attention to detail are crucial for maintaining patient records and executing administrative duties accurately.
- Proven ability to operate independently and collaboratively within a cohesive team environment in a dynamic general practice setting.
- Fluency in English is mandatory for carer positions in Ireland to ensure clear and efficient communication.
Hours: 39 hours per week
Contract: 2-years contract will be provided.
