This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance.Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.
Job Description
We are a small, busy business seeking a motivated Administrative Assistant who will also undertake receptionist and secretarial duties as part of a Work Placement Experience Programme (WPEP). The participant will join the office in a supportive, supervised training environment, working alongside experienced legal and administrative staff at all times. As WPEP is a training programme, the participant will not be assigned core responsibilities or independent caseloads. Instead, the participant will observe, assist and learn through structured instruction and close supervision. By the end of the placement, the participant will be able to: Understand the day-to-day functioning of a small legal practice.
Perform routine administrative tasks under guidance, such as filing, scanning, data entry, and preparing standard documents.Use common office software (Word, Excel, case-management tools) effectively.
Recognise confidentiality, GDPR obligations, and appropriate client-care practices.
All activities will be supervised and instructional in nature, such as observing client-service processes at reception and learning professional communication, assisting with photocopying, scanning, filing, and maintaining client files (under supervision), learning how to handle incoming/outgoing post and document organisation.
At all times, the participant will work beside the supervising solicitor or administrative lead. They will not provide legal advice, manage files independently, or assume any responsibility for compliance or client decisions.
Role Description
Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection
This training will take place during normal supervised office activities. The participant will learn through instruction, demonstration, shadowing, and guided practice. Examples of On-the-Job Training Introduction to Legal Office Procedures Learning how case files are opened, organised, and maintained.

Document Handling & File Management Training Scanning, Photocopying, File naming conventions, Archiving, and document securityReception & Client Interaction Training Observing how phone calls are managed, How clients are greeted, and how appointments are organised.
Formal
IT & Practice Management Systems Training Instruction on using case-management software, calendars, templates, and secure email.Health & Safety & Office Protocols Training DSE setup, Manual handling awareness, Confidentiality rules and incident-reporting procedures.
Shadowing a Solicitor or Senior Administrator Observing meetings preparation, Dictation typing, Document preparation and routine office workflows.
Daily Supervision Sessions Short check-ins to review skills, set goals, and discuss progress
ICT basics, GDPR, communication, safety, admin skills
