Sales Manager – New Business Development (Automation)

Reporting to: Head of Sales

Key Contacts: Customers, Project Managers, Purchasing Teams, Internal Stakeholders

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Sales Manager to lead new business development initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, negotiating, and closing new sales opportunities while ensuring strong customer relationships and profitable outcomes.

This role requires excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of customer needs and market dynamics.

Key Accountabilities
  • Profitability: Identify and negotiate projects with a minimum net profit target to ensure sustainable business growth.
  • Sales Delivery: Manage the sales process from initial enquiry, quotation, and negotiation through to agreed timelines for delivery.
  • Quality: Understand customer requirements thoroughly, including relevant technologies and risks, to ensure accurate and effective solutions.
  • Innovation: Highlight unique selling points (USPs) during the sales process to improve conversion rates and competitive positioning.
Key Responsibilities
  • Comply with all company policies regarding Health & Safety, Quality, Environmental standards, and employee regulations.
  • Develop and expand sales channels and marketing materials to promote the company’s products or services effectively.
  • Identify and target new potential clients who could benefit from automation or relevant solutions.
  • Initiate contact with potential customers to qualify sales opportunities and gather detailed requirements.
  • Provide clear and detailed briefs on customer needs along with tailored solutions.
  • Lead initial contract negotiations, including scope, pricing, and delivery timelines aligned with commercial objectives.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information within CRM and other business systems.
  • Build and manage strong customer relationships, acting as the primary point of contact.
  • Collaborate with internal specialists when complex technical knowledge is required, ensuring appropriate costing and resource allocation.
  • Monitor and communicate any changes in project scope or customer requirements to relevant teams.
  • Resolve commercial issues such as payment disputes or specification changes efficiently and professionally.
