Position Description

We own and operate several hydroelectric power plants on the Shannon, Lee, Liffey, Erne, and Clady rivers. As a responsible company, we are committed to sustainable practices and minimising the environmental impact of our operations. Our Sustainable River Strategy (SRS) aims to improve fish passage infrastructure, enhance river connectivity, increase fish abundance in our hydro rivers, and adopt a Nature Positive Approach (NPA) on owned riversides and lakesides.

The successful candidate will assume a role as project engineer co-ordinating and manage improvement projects for fisheries assets across our Hydroelectric Power Stations. The role is within the Operations team in Sustainable Rivers organisation within Generation & Trading.

The Project Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient, reliable management of all improvement projects outlined in the Sustainable Rivers Strategy.

They will be a team player and self-starter with the ability to multi-task as well as meet deadlines. They will also have a demonstrable ability to communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels in the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage engineering projects from initial concept through design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Develop and manage project scopes, specifications, schedules, budgets, and risk registers.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in line with agreed time, cost, quality, and performance targets.
  • Prepare technical evaluations and support tendering, contractor selection, and contract award processes.
  • Contractor management including site inspection and site supervision.
  • Review of Method Statements and Risk Assessments and other associated H&S documentation required before work commences.
  • Contribute to review and upkeep of associated drawing and document management of projects.
  • Co-ordinate the delivery of the project within the Hydropower stations and the interface between the contractor and the station staff.
  • Ensure all project activities comply with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality legislation, standards and company procedures.
  • Actively promote and support a strong safety culture across projects and contractor activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential
  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or relevant discipline).
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering project delivery
  • Strong understanding of project management principles.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and best practice.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and report-writing skills.
  • Strong IT skills (MS Office and engineering/project systems as applicable).
Desirable
  • Knowledge of power generation, utilities, or similar regulated environments.
Qualifications (Essential)
  • Engineering or equivalent degree
  • A full driving licence
  • Flexibility to travel nationally is a requirement of this role

Base Location

Our Dublin city offices

Business travel to site location for meeting and contractor management several days a week will form an essential part of this role.

The locations will include Hydro stations on the Liffey, Lee, Erne and Shannon.

Expenses incurred for business travel – that are not normally incurred by the successful candidate in their normal place of work – will be reimbursed.

Other Requirements
  • The successful candidate must have use of a personal ‘phone, laptop/PC and internet facilities, and must be equipped to fully engage in a professional manner during the engagement.
  • The successful candidate must have access to a car.
