Job Description
Duties
This is a developmental opportunity, no experience necessary. Accredited training will be provided to support your career.
The Caretaker / Groundskeeper is responsible for the maintenance, safety, and presentation of the club’s pitches, grounds, and facilities, ensuring they are kept to a high standard for training, matches, and club events.
Key ResponsibilitiesPitch & Grounds Maintenance
Maintain all playing pitches and training areas (mowing, lining, rolling, aeration, basic turf repair)
Monitor pitch conditions and report issues such as drainage or wear
Assist in determining pitch playability in adverse weather
Maintain surrounding grounds, walkways, and car parks
Match & Training Preparation
Prepare pitches for matches and training sessions
Erect and remove goals, nets, flags, padding, and other equipment
Ensure pitches are correctly marked for football, hurling, and other club activities
Facilities & Clubhouse Care
Open and close clubhouse and grounds as required
Clean and maintain dressing rooms, toilets, showers, and common areas
Carry out minor repairs and maintenance (where competent)
Monitor heating, lighting, water, and electrical systems and report faults
Health & Safety
Ensure all facilities are safe for players, officials, members, and visitors
Identify and report hazards or maintenance issues to the club committee
Assist the club in meeting health and safety standards
Equipment & Security
Maintain and store equipment securely
Act as keyholder for club facilities (where required)
Ensure grounds and buildings are secured after use
Communication & Support
Liaise with club officers, coaches, and committee members
Support referees and visiting teams on match days
Assist with preparation and clean-up for club events
Skills & Attributes
Practical knowledge of pitch and grounds maintenance
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail
Good communication and reliability
Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends
