Structural Design Engineer- Public Body New

ROLE & PURPOSE:
- To provide professional support to the Multi Annual Programmes (MAP) Section, Network Enhancements Department, for the design and management of projects.
- Typical projects to include all Multi Annual Programmes projects including but not limited to the Accessibility Programme.
- Assist the Programme Manager, MAP, and Senior Structural Engineers & Project Managers within the Projects working in that Section, with the delivery of departmental projects to authorised budget, time, quality and scope targets by:
- Providing technical services to internal colleagues, external design teams, resident engineering team, and contractors/suppliers, etc.
- Effective utilisation of, and collaboration with, in-house and external resources.
- To provide advice to your line manager and colleagues to assist with the implementation of all relevant measures required by applicable industry standards, regulations and legislation.
- Assist in Implementation of company and Capital Investment Division Standards.
- To provide professional support in terms of management of projects undertaken by the Assistant Director, Network Enhancements.
Key Qualities:
Essential- A third level 8 qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering,
- Membership of Engineers Ireland or equivalent professional governing body,
- A minimum of 5 years’ post qualification experience working in a Civil and/or Structural Engineering Design office,
- Chartered engineer- desirable
- A strong working knowledge of LUAS, Tekla TEEDS, SLOPE, WALLAP or similar design software,
- A good working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Civils 3D and similar design aid tools,
- Working under a BIM system,
- An excellent working knowledge of current Civil and Structural Engineering design standards, the Eurocodes, TII Standards and Health & Safety Regulations,
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety issues in a construction/rail environment.
- Availability to work occasional weekend and/or night shifts
- Experience in the preparation and delivery of technical information, including reports, drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, etc. for Civil/Structural Engineering projects,
- Experience in construction site safety, quality and production audits,
- Experience in maintaining an information management system,
- Demonstrable understanding of good Project Management Procedures,
- Competency in Health & Safety within a rail/construction environment (both HSA & CRR)
Competencies:
- Demonstrated experience of holding responsibility for delivery of drawings, documentation, etc.
- Demonstrated experience of holding responsibility for managing contracts on site
- Excellent Interpersonal skills/ communications skills
- Commercial awareness
- Planning & Organisational skills.
General Management Responsibilities:
General:
- Assist in the continuous improvement of Network Enhancements systems and processes
- Keep abreast of the latest company and industry standards
- Assist in the preparation of project plans for all projects managed by, or supported by, the MAP Section of Network Enhancements
Safety:
- Comply with the general duties of Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
- Comply with Company Safety Statement
- Undertake audits, as required by the Programme Manager, MAP, to ensure robust safety management systems and emergency arrangements are in place.
- Identify the key risk areas under your control and ensure that staff, contractors, consultants and external agencies comply with relevant company policies, standards and procedures
Specific Responsibilities:
General:
The range of duties include but are not limited to:
- To Assist in the continuous improvement of Structural Design Office’s systems and processes
- To project manage sub-projects within major projects undertaken by the business Unit
- The principal role is in relation to bridge structures: to carry out structural assessments and prepare technical reportsto prepare outline and detailed structural designs for the refurbishment of existing buildings and structures,
- To prepare outline and detailed designs for new bridges, including foot bridges,
- To instruct technicians on the preparation of technical civil/structural engineering drawings, including checking and marking up,
- Preparation and upkeep of civil/structural engineering design specifications,
- To review and check designs prepared by other engineers, including third parties
- To monitor on site construction, safety, quality and production
The secondary role is in relation to structures:
- To carry out structural assessments and prepare technical reports,
- To review outline and detailed structural designs prepared by others,
- To review/check drawings prepared by technicians,
- To review and check designs prepared by other engineers, including third parties
