This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance.Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.
Job Description
About Us:Galway City Gym has been at the heart of the fitness community for 40 years, helping mums, dads, and individuals over 30 build strength, confidence, and sustainable health habits. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a vibrant gym environment while learning from experienced trainers.
What you will be trained in and assist with:- Gaining insight into gym operations by assisting with daily tasks; recording membership renewals, cash handling etc.
- Appropriately introducing the members to the gym and gym equipment
- Keeping the gym clean, organised, and welcoming for members
- Maintenance of gym equipment
- Engaging with members to create a positive and friendly atmosphere
- Supporting admin tasks such as bookings, inquiries, answering the telephone and general customer service
- Practical experience in a real gym environment
- A valuable reference for future employment in the fitness industry
- Opportunity to develop your skills in a supportive, professional setting
This role is part of the Work Placement Experience Programme (WPEP), meaning applicants must be eligible for the scheme.

Role Description
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection.This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP.
Formal Training to be provided:- Health & Safety Training (Safety Statement)
- Information Security Training (PCI DSS)
- Observing and assisting trainers during classes and personal training sessions
- Exposure to coaching techniques and gym management
- Customer Service Skills
- Mentorship from experienced trainers
