Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Officer

Summary:

A leading not-for-profit organisation providing essential services and supports to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism is seeking an ICT Officer to join their dedicated team. This organisation operates across Galway City and County, delivering person-centred day services, residential care, community supports, and rehabilitative training.

As an ICT Officer, you will be part of a small but focused IT team, ensuring the smooth operation of the organisation’s IT infrastructure and delivering technical support to staff and service users. This is an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause while working with a variety of technologies in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities:

Provide hardware and software support for desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, routers, and firewalls.
  • Deliver technical assistance via a helpdesk system to staff and service users.
  • Conduct IT skills training sessions for staff and service users.
  • Perform network administration in a Microsoft Windows Server and Citrix VMware environment.
  • Manage user accounts and email services through Microsoft Exchange and Office 365.
  • Monitor and maintain system integrity and security using antivirus and anti-spyware tools.
  • Administer and monitor data backups (onsite and offsite).
  • Assist with new user setups, desk moves, and cabling tasks.
  • Oversee telecommunications systems administration and software license compliance.
  • Liaise with vendors and service providers to source IT solutions ensuring best value.
  • Support the development of management information systems through software utilities.
  • Maintain IT documentation and advise on new technologies and improvements.
  • Lead IT projects and provide cover for the ICT Manager when required.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Degree in IT, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an IT operational environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows 10, Office 2016, Office 365, Windows Server, and Exchange.
  • Strong understanding of desktop hardware, software, and networking technologies.
  • Experience with switches, hubs, wireless access points, and structured cabling.
  • Full driver’s license with access to own transport.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical staff.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in organisations supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, or mental health services.
