DevOps Engineer - OpenShift & Kubernetes Specialist

We are seeking an experienced OpenShift ECS System Engineer to join our DevOps and containerization team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD tools, and cloud technologies. You will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting containerized applications, supporting development and production environments, and ensuring efficient application deployment and operations.
Hybrid role: 3 days a week in Dublin, Ireland.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Level 3 support and advanced troubleshooting for applications running on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.
- Administer, configure, and maintain OpenShift clusters, including containerized application health monitoring and support.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Git, Ansible, and Bitbucket.
- Create and manage deployment templates and automate infrastructure tasks using Ansible and Shell scripting.
- Support application development teams in deploying Java-based applications including SpringBoot and NodeJS into containerized environments.
- Install and maintain Confluent Kafka components including Schema Registry, Control Center, Replicator, and Security Plugins.
- Monitor and manage cloud infrastructure and container resources (On-premise or AWS).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for capacity management, cost allocation, and license management of container infrastructure.
- Champion the adoption of containerization and ensure proper integration with enterprise systems like SSO, job schedulers, and password management tools.
- Participate in go-live activities, application environment builds, and post-deployment middleware support.
- Track, report, and manage incidents and problem resolutions using ITSM tools.
- Identify gaps in automation processes and propose solutions for system inefficiencies.
- Prepare documentation and reports for container usage, adoption metrics, risks, and issues.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in scripting (preferably Ansible and Shell).
- Strong expertise in OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD tools - Jenkins, Git, Ansible, Bitbucket, uDeploy.
- Experience with Unix/Linux scripting and administration.
- Exposure to Java, Python, and Shell scripting.
- Experience in monitoring and performance tuning of containerized applications.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Experience working with event-driven architecture and tools like Apache Kafka and AMQ.
- Experience administering Kafka Brokers, ZooKeeper, Schema Registry, and related Kafka ecosystem tools.
- Familiarity with cloud environments and monitoring/cost management tools (AWS preferred).
- Proven experience in application deployment, performance testing, and configuration management in a cloud/container environment.
- Experience with OpenShift cluster administration.
- Familiarity with Confluent Platform and Kafka streaming solutions.
- Knowledge of version control systems and DevOps pipelines.
- Working knowledge of monitoring tools and performance testing tools.
- Ability to plan and coordinate across multiple teams and projects.
