Job Overview
The Assistant Person in Charge (APIC) has the responsibility to lead and organise the management of the
nursing home. This includes establishing and upholding a standard of residential care and activities in
alignment with the best national and international practices, considering the available resources. The APIC
supports and aids the PIC in managing all staff, ensuring adherence to the standards set by Sonas and
Statutory Regulations. Additionally, the APIC focuses on building and sustaining relationships with residents
founded on principles of respect and equality. Reporting to The Person in Charge or delegated person.
Duties & Responsibilities will include, but not limited to
In the absence of the Person in Charge, the individual is responsible for assuming the role and duties
outlined by the Health Act 2007, related regulations, and HIQA National Quality Standards.
To support and assist the PIC in overseeing the nursing home's organisation, management, and
operations. This involves providing leadership and clinical supervision to enhance standards and team
morale.
Establish and maintain through high standards of professional conduct and practice, a caring
environment which is person centred and is conducive to the physical, emotional, social and spiritual individual needs of the residents.
Contribute to the safeguarding of residents, taking steps to protect residents from any form of abuse
or neglect and use the appropriate reporting mechanisms to inform the relevant parties of any
concerns.
Deliver a high standard of care ensuring all practices reflect the privacy, dignity and respect of our
residents and instilling the basic values that contribute to an excellent quality of life.
To be fully responsible for the nursing home's organisation, ensuring adequate staffing levels and the

highest standards of care delivery. To act as a resource for nursing staff, stay informed about changes in nursing care, and contribute to professional and service developments.

To create a positive learning environment, by supporting and encouraging open discussions amongst
staff.

Must be available for day, night, and weekend shifts as needed.

Education & Qualifications
Third Level Degree in Nursing.
Registered with An Bord Altranais and hold an active PIN.
Current and valid Infection Control, Manual and Resident Moving & Handling, Medication Management, Dementia, CPR, Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults Certificates (training can be provided if required).
Post-registration qualification in healthcare management or equivalent is essential. In the absence of
such a qualification, the appointee will be required to undertake such training.
Post-registration qualification in Gerontology or Dementia Care is desirable
Skills & Experience
Minimum 6 years’ post-registration nursing experience.
Minimum 2 years’ work experience in a Nursing Home environment.
Minimum 2 year work experience in a management position
