Person in Charge is responsible to direct and coordinate the management of the nursing home, establish
and maintain a standard of residential care and activities in accordance with the best national and
international practices and within available resources. They coordinate staff to meet Ethos and Statutory
Regulations, and foster respectful relationships with residents. They report to the Nursing Home Coordinator

or a designated individual.

Duties & Responsibilities will include, but not limited to
Fulfill the duties and obligations of the Person in Charge in accordance with the Health Act 2007, relevant regulations, and HIQA National Quality Standards.
Supervise the organisation, administration, and functions of all facets of the Nursing Home in
collaboration with the Registered Provider.
Offer guidance and clinical oversight to all personnel, thereby enhancing standards and fostering a
positive team spirit.
Employ leadership styles that positively influence staff morale and the overall Nursing Home

atmosphere.

Establish and uphold a caring environment of elevated professional standards that caters to the
individual physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of residents.
Contribute to resident safeguarding efforts by implementing measures to prevent abuse or neglect, and utilizing appropriate reporting channels to communicate concerns to relevant parties.
Foster relationships with residents built on principles of respect and equality.
Advocate for, support, and implement the principles of person-centered care.

Maintain availability for night and weekend shifts as necessary.

Education & Qualifications
Third level degree in nursing is required.
Must be registered with An Bord Altranais and possess an active PIN.
Up-to-date certifications in infection control, manual and resident moving & handling, medication
management, CPR, dementia care, and safeguarding of vulnerable adults are necessary (training

available if needed).

A post-registration qualification in healthcare management or equivalent is essential; otherwise, the
appointee will undergo necessary training.

Additional post-registration qualifications in gerontology or dementia care are advantageous.

Skills & Experience
A minimum of three years of prior work experience in a managerial role is required.
At least three years of experience in eldercare nursing within the past six years is necessary.
A minimum of six years of post-registration nursing experience is essential.
Demonstrated clinical proficiency and a dedication to providing exceptional care for older individuals.
Possession of a full Irish driver’s license and access to personal transportation is mandatory.
