AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

The AWS Networking organization is hiring, and we’re looking for talented Network Development Engineers (NDE) to join our team. Within Networking, we’re confronting and solving complex and high-stake challenges.

The AWS Direct Connect team delivers solutions that make it easy for customers to establish a dedicated network connection from their premises to the AWS cloud. These connections help to reduce network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, and provide a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections.

For this role, we are seeking a Network Development Engineer to work in our Direct Connect Network Capacity Engineering organization. This team is responsible for deployment of Direct connect Infrastructure. Engineers in this organization own large scale deployments, automate processes and work with stakeholder to come up with network design that are low cost and efficient.

If you’re up the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!

We are inventing the networks of the future so our engineers require a deep background in network hardware, routing protocols, designing and deployment of large scale networks. The ideal candidate for this team would have a knowledge of router system design, large scale network deployment and process automation.

We’re interested in engineers with experience having designed, operated, and implemented networks of very large scale.

Key job responsibilities
  • Deploy, scale and automate our network across multiple global datacenters. This includes existing footprints and greenfield locations.
  • Drive scaling of current network designs to meet the demand of our customers.
  • Create simple, repetitive deployment processes that increase both velocity and quality.
  • Work closely with our internal customers on designs/solutions; bringing those designs/solutions from concept to production.
  • Create and update our network standards and ensure that the network is deployed to these standards.
  • Create and implement changes on the network.
  • Work closely with our automation teams in defining the tools that allow us to scale at higher volume.

A day in the life

Imagine collaborating with world-class engineers to solve complex networking challenges. Your day will involve designing cutting-edge network architectures, automating deployment processes, and developing solutions that connect global enterprises to AWS cloud services.

You'll work on projects that directly impact how businesses around the world access and utilize cloud technology.

About the team

The primary area of responsibility you and your team will have is to design ahead of customer or technology needs, always predicting and solving for problems that have not yet occurred. This takes the form of creating and defending High Level Design (HLD) documents, working with vendors or internal stakeholders to influence technology roadmaps, constructing and testing your solutions, and providing support to the teams that will deploy and operate these designs.

Our teams also serve as technical escalation points in support of our very talented operations teams.

An Internet Edge NDE at AWS is responsible for providing our customers world class Internet connectivity by optimizing for security, availability, performance, and cost. We do this by setting network standards and creating scalable designs that our customers love.
