As a Mechanical Engineer Intern, you will be part of our multi-disciplinary engineering team, supporting the delivery of water and wastewater projects from design through to completion and handover to the client. This placement will provide you with the opportunity to learn from industry-leading project teams, working in a collaborative “one-team” culture while developing and broadening your technical and professional skills.

You will demonstrate a willingness to learn and contribute as part of an experienced delivery team. Under the guidance of senior staff, you will support day-to-day project activities, gain exposure to engineering design and on-site operations, and develop an understanding of how projects are priced, planned, and delivered.
Due to the diverse nature of our work, you will have the chance to observe and engage with a wide range of mechanical engineering activities, giving you valuable insight into both the technical and practical aspects of the industry. This placement is designed to support your professional growth, preparing you to return to university with enhanced knowledge and experience to progress in your future career.
Successful interns may also be considered for a place on the Glanua Graduate Programme upon completion of their degree, offering a clear pathway to continue their career development within the organisation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer Intern are outlined as follows:
Work as part of a project team, contributing to the delivery of ongoing projects and embracing a collaborative “one team” culture.Support the promotion of Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies, and procedures on-site.
Support the sizing and selection of pumps, valves, pipework, and other mechanical systems under guidance.
Assist in preparing mechanical design drawings, schematics, Inspection Test Records, and equipment layouts for water/wastewater treatment facilities.
Carry out basic engineering calculations (e.g., flow rates, pressure drops, pump curves) with support from senior engineers.
Contribute to the preparation of technical specifications for mechanical equipment and fittings.
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues on-site under supervision.
Observe and gain experience in planned preventive maintenance routines for plant equipment.
Get familiar with water and wastewater treatment processes, including exposure to modular package treatment plant fabrication.
Engage in continuous learning and development, keeping up to date with emerging industry standards and technologies through guidance and mentoring.
Support site teams with health and safety activities, such as inductions, statutory inspections, record keeping, and data collection.
