Duties
This is a developmental opportunity, no experience necessary. Accredited training will be provided to support your career.
The Caretaker/Groundskeeper will ensure the school’s astro turf pitches, sports fields, and complex are maintained to a high standard, safe, and ready for use by students, staff, and community groups. The role combines facilities management, pitch preparation, and general maintenance to support both daily school use and external bookings.Key Responsibilities
Sports Facility & Pitch Maintenance
Maintain astro turf, grass pitches, and courts to ensure safe play conditions.
Regularly brush, clean, and check astro turf surfaces; arrange deep cleaning as needed.
Line-mark pitches and courts for various sports.
Inspect and repair goals, nets, posts, fencing, and floodlights.
Monitor usage and schedule maintenance to prevent damage or overuse.
Groundskeeping & Outdoor AreasCarry out grass cutting, strimming, weeding, and general landscaping around the complex.
Keep pathways, spectator areas, and car parks clean and safe.
Ensure drainage systems are clear and pitches remain playable in all weather.
Prepare facilities for training sessions, school fixtures, and community events.
Building & Facilities CaretakingOpen and close the sports complex, changing rooms, and toilets as required.
Maintain cleanliness of indoor areas, including changing rooms, showers, gym spaces, and storage.
Carry out minor repairs and report major maintenance needs.
Monitor stock of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
Health, Safety & SecurityConduct daily checks to ensure facilities are safe and ready for use.
Lock and secure buildings, gates, and floodlighting systems after use.
Ensure fire exits, emergency equipment, and first-aid facilities are in order.
Support health & safety compliance for school and public use.
Community & Event SupportAssist with the set-up and take-down of equipment for sports days, tournaments, and community bookings.
Work with staff, coaches, and external groups to ensure smooth operation.
Provide a friendly and helpful presence for facility users.
