Application Details

This Work Placement Experience Programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers who are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme or an ETB Training Allowance.

Your eligibility for this programme will be verified by the Department as part of the application process.

Job Description

The National Surf Centre in Strandhill, Sligo has an exciting opportunity for a participant on the Work Placement Experience Programme as an Administrative Assistant. The successful participant will be trained to assist the Coordinator with the running of events at the Centre and will gain hands‑on experience in supporting the day‑to‑day operations.

While on the placement the participant will gain experience in:
  • Assisting with the interaction with visitors and inquiries, re-directing as appropriate
  • Supporting the organising and overseeing of meeting room hire and events requirements by meeting and greeting visitors
  • Assisting in ensuring that the National Surf Centre’s grounds, meeting rooms and facilities are maintained and presented to the highest standards
  • Supporting the coordinator in the liaison with suppliers and trade contractors.
  • Assisting in contributing to events, projects and initiatives within the National Surf Centre as they arise

Role Description

This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection.

This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP.

Formal Training
  • Safeguarding (Child Welfare & Protection in Sport) training as certified by Sports Ireland to a Minimum Level 1.

  • Health & Safety

Formal Training can be provided by MSLETB when a need an opportunity arises, for example on their Skills to Advance and Wellness in the Workplace programmes

There is a system in place where the placement candidate will participate in weekly meetings to review work activities. This give the opportunity to provide feedback on how the placement is progressing
