Location of Employment: Rainbow Club Cork Centre for Autism, Mahon Community Centre, Avenue de Rennes, Mahon, Cork, Ireland, T12HP40
Annual Remuneration: €34,000 annually
Weekly Hours: 39 hours weekly
Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required:
The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.
A minimum Level 8 qualification in Social Care, Early Years, Psychology, Occupational Therapy or other relevant areas of study is essential for this role.
Previous experience working with children and young people with Autism is essential.
Role Duties & Responsibilities:
The Assistant is responsible for the safety of the child on board the bus/taxi and will be required to provide pupil care needs including but not limited to assisting the child getting on and off the bus, securing appropriate seat belts etc.
The Assistant will support the Supervisor ensuring that all persons using the bus are collected and delivered appropriately to their destination.
The Assistant should ensure that persons using the bus are appropriately secure (wearing seatbelts, wheelchair clamps)To assist with the preparation & cleaning of the room before and after each session.
To get down to child level and engage in play & activities which are enjoyable and appropriate to the children’s needs.
To assist supervisors with the preparation and implementation of different activities such as games, messy play, arts & crafts, creative play, outdoor play etc.
To help set out activities and work with the children at their individual level using appropriate communication techniques.
To meet the toileting needs of the children including nappy changing if necessary, ensuring child protection guidelines are adhered to always.
To report to the manager any concerns or difficulties that he/she may have around any individual child or incidents that occur during the session or any changes to the children’s development/behaviour, and fill out the necessary paperwork i.e. accident/incident report etc.
To contribute and participate in team meetings, when required.To make herself/himself aware of all the operating policy and procedures within the facility and to follow the same to ensure the health, safety and well-being of the children/young teens in their care.
To draw the manager’s attention to any health and safety issues that need to be addressed and to have an input if policies are being updated.
To keep all information accessible to him/her confidential and not to discuss any matters or children outside the setting and only on the premises with the parent/guardian of the child in question.
To follow the guidance of therapists that may be working with the group at times.
To assist the manager in carrying out fire drills etc.
To join in any extra activities that are organized by the club e.g. parties, outings etc.
To ensure that all service users – (children, parents and fellow volunteers/staff
